Conductor

Harald Jers studied physics (diploma and teaching profession), mathematics, school music / solo-singing, conducting (diploma; choral conducting with Prof. Volker Hempfling, orchestra conducting with Prof. Lutz Herbig, singing with Alastair Thompson) and church music at Aachen, Köln (Cologne), Stockholm and Düsseldorf.

To extend his skills in conducting, he was an active participant in international master classes with renowned conductors such as Frieder Bernius, Eric Ericson, Laszlo Heltay, Peter Erdei, Eva Kollar, Wolfgang Schäfer, Max Frey, Georg Grün. His work as a conductor, singer, organist and accompanist have led him to various concert tours throughout Sweden, Finland, England, Scotland, France, Spain, Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, China and to the USA.

Harald Jers is conservatory lecturer and examiner for choral conducting, singing, voice training and acoustics. He teaches at the college of music in Cologne and in the bishoprics of Cologne and Aachen, as well as guest lecturer at the Royal College of Music Stockholm. Furthermore he is lecturer for choral conducting combined with voice training associated with choral acoustics and has been jury member of International choir and composition competitions.

His extensive research in the field of musical acoustics and room acoustics have led to decisive results in analyzing the human voice in choirs. In framework of his graduation in systematic musicology in the field of „choral acoustics“, Harald Jers obtained a research assignment of the EU at the Royal Technical University of Stockholm. In November 2005 he has been awarded the first prize of „Acoustical Society of America“ in musical acoustics and 2010 the Grand-Prix-Conducting-Prize at the International Choir competition in Debrecen (Hungary).
